Matterhorn
It is one of the most beautiful trails in Aosta Valley.Route:
1st day: Cervinia (2,005 m) – Rifugio Teodulo (3,300 m). Height difference: +1295 m. Time: 4/5 hours.
2nd day: Rifugio Teodulo (3,300 m) – Rifugio Schonbiel (2,694 m). The path winds its way through the glacier Theodule, to Trockener Steg, then comes down to Furgg and eventually rises to Schwarzsee. Following, along the valley Zmutt, under the north wall of the Matterhorn, you will get to Schonbielhutte. Height difference: +650 m, -300 m. Time: 6 hours.
3rd day: Rifugio Schonbiel (2,694 m) - Rifugio Aosta (2,781 m). Climb on Col de Valpelline, on the Col de la Division, and then last stop at Rifugio Aosta. Height difference: +1050 m, -950 m. Time: 7 hours.
4th day: Rifugio Aosta (2,781 m) – Rifugio Perucca Vuillermoz (2,909 m). Descent to the Valpelline valley, until Rifugio Prarayer. Climb on the hill of Valcornera, until Rifugio Perucca Vuillermoz. Height difference: +1100 m, -1000 m. Time: 7 hours.
5th day: Rifugio Perucca Vuillermoz (2,909 m) - Rifugio Duca degli Abruzzi Oriondé (2,810 m), descent to Valtournenche, along the south face of Matterhorn.
Height difference: +750 m; –850 m. Time: 7 hours.
